A Wood Lanka

How to get your treated wood authenticated.

When purchasing treated wood in Sri Lanka, it’s crucial to ensure that the wood has undergone proper treatment to guarantee durability. Unfortunately, many vendors sell inadequately treated wood that may deteriorate within a decade. Investing in properly treated wood is essential for a longer lifespan, potentially exceeding 30 years.

In Sri Lanka, Awood Lanka offers two main types of wood treatments. The first is boron wood treatment, designed for indoor use, providing a 10-year guarantee against borers. However, it’s not suitable for outdoor applications or permanent structures, requiring protection from weather conditions and termites.

The second option is ACQ wood treatment, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. ACQ treatment protects against decay from moisture and insect attacks, including termites. It is recommended for permanent outdoor applications.

To ensure you’re investing in properly treated wood, consider the following:

  1. Verify Treatment Facility Reputation: Inquire about the treatment facility where the wood is processed. Choose vendors associated with reputable treatment facilities in the country.
  2. Ask About Treatment Method: Determine the method of treatment used, preferring pressure-treated wood over dip-treated wood. Pressure-treated wood adheres to higher standards, ensuring enhanced durability.
  3. Request a Warranty Certificate: Always ask for a warranty certificate from the treatment provider, confirming the treatment process. This adds an extra layer of assurance regarding the quality of the treated wood.
  4. External Verification: Seek an external check from institutions like the Timber Corporation for a comprehensive assessment. This step, which costs 4400 Rupees, provides an independent validation of the wood’s treatment quality.

By following these steps, you can confidently purchase properly treated wood, ensuring longevity and resilience against decay and pests.
